  • The Senate holds the exclusive power to confirm Presidential appointments, ratify treaties, exercise advice and consent powers, and try cases of impeachment brought by the House of Representatives (the lower chamber).
  • Each of the 50 states is represented by 2 senators who serve staggered terms of 6 years.
  • The Senate is currently comprised of 48 Democrats, 3 Independents, and 49 Republicans.
  • 34 seats will be contested on November 5, 2024. (20 Democrats, 3 Independents, and 11 Republicans)
